Google Chrome Enhanced Autofill Update 2026 Rolls Out with Gmail Integration

Google Chrome Enhanced Autofill Update 2026 Rolls Out with Gmail Integration

Google Chrome now offers Gemini‑powered autofill that pulls order numbers, tracking info and flight details straight from Gmail. The feature rolls out in the United States for users who have Personal Intelligence turned on, and it’s available on Android, iOS and desktop as of October 2026.

    What changed

Chrome’s autofill has been upgraded to use Google’s Gemini AI and the Personal Intelligence framework. Beyond the usual name, address and credit‑card fields, the new system can suggest data that lives in your Gmail inbox—such as order confirmations, shipment tracking numbers and flight itineraries—directly in the form‑fill dropdown. When a suggestion is available, the dropdown shows a “Suggested by Gemini” label.

    Who gets it and when

The rollout is currently limited to the United States. It is automatically enabled for Chrome users who have Personal Intelligence turned on, which is supported on Android, iOS and desktop versions of Chrome. The feature is part of Chrome 156 and is being pushed out gradually to eligible devices.

    How to use it

    • Open Chrome on a supported device (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or iOS).
    • Make sure Personal Intelligence is enabled in Chrome Settings → Personal Intelligence.
    • When you reach a form field, click into it. If Chrome finds relevant data in your Gmail, a dropdown appears with a “Suggested by Gemini” option.
    • Select the suggestion to fill the field automatically.
    • If you see a suggestion you don’t want, you can remove it from the dropdown or turn off the enhanced autofill feature entirely in Settings.

What it means if you are choosing Google Chrome

The new autofill capability makes Chrome a stronger contender for users who rely heavily on email confirmations for online purchases and travel bookings. By pulling data from Gmail, it reduces the need to copy‑paste or manually type long strings of numbers. Privacy‑focused users should note that sensitive data is encrypted and that Chrome gives control to delete individual suggestions or disable the feature.

However, the rollout is US‑only and requires Personal Intelligence to be active, which may not suit everyone. If you prefer a browser that offers similar convenience without AI‑driven suggestions, Microsoft Edge’s “Password & Form Autofill” or Mozilla Firefox’s “Form Autofill” extensions remain solid alternatives. Those options don’t rely on email scanning, which some users find more privacy‑friendly.

    FAQ

Does the feature work on all Chrome platforms?

Yes, the enhanced autofill works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS as long as Personal Intelligence is enabled.

Can I turn off the Gmail‑based suggestions?

Absolutely. In Chrome Settings you can disable the enhanced autofill experience or delete specific suggestions from the dropdown.

    Is my Gmail data safe?

Google states that any data used for autofill is encrypted and that users retain control over what is suggested.

    Bottom line

Chrome’s Gemini‑powered autofill adds a handy shortcut for US users who have Personal Intelligence turned on, pulling relevant details from Gmail to speed up form completion. It’s a useful upgrade for frequent online shoppers and travelers, but the feature’s regional limitation and reliance on AI may lead some to stick with other browsers or disable it for privacy reasons.
